So where did it all begin and how did I end up here? I often ask myself these questions and the answer is always the same! After 36 years in electrical engineering, my life of fixing things around the world came to an end when my wife and I decided to sell up in Staffordshire and move to Devon for a kind of semi retired lifestyle!
So having moved to Devon in August 2022 and being close to the ocean I took up residence at the beach for most of August and September while contemplating what I was going to do with the skillset I had and took a part time job at a well known supermarket stacking shelves and it was there that the idea of Waves Retro Repairs came to mind along with my wife telling me that my skills were being wasted putting fruit and veg out!
I set about trying to find somewhere to set up shop and was pointed in the direction of The Clay Factory just outside the town of Ivybridge. A work space was chosen and the workshop started taking shape. I call it a workshop, my wife calls it a man cave as it houses part of my ever increasing record collection, Hi-Fi gear and guitar/amps. Oh and to add something else in the mix I'm also a licensed radio amateur with my callsign being M0VTD, you can find me on www.qrz.com/db/m0vtd
My first nixie clock was a kit received as a Christmas present consisting of 4 IN-12 tubes and I loved the retro look of them. Id seen some nixie clocks at a trade show at the NEC in Birmingham (thank you Bad Dog Designs for the inspiration) and started looking at other kits to build, this led me to Pete at PV Electronics in Kent and this is the place I get all my kits from, the quality and support is fantastic! This is how the fascination with time began and I started acquiring objects in which to incorporate these nixie clocks, mainly saving them from going to landfill.
